Coach Code of Conduct
RSP certifies and platforms independent coaches who train athletes — many of them minors. These standards protect athletes first, and the integrity of the RSP network second.
By registering as a coach on Run Speed Performance, you agree to uphold the standards below at all times when interacting with RSP athletes, families, staff, and the platform.
This Code reflects RSP community standards and references U.S. Center for SafeSport guidance and state mandated-reporter law. It is not a substitute for the laws and reporting obligations of your own jurisdiction, which you are responsible for knowing and following.
1. Athlete Safety First
The safety and wellbeing of every athlete — especially minors — comes before everything else. As a condition of coaching on RSP, you agree to:
- Never be alone, one-on-one, with a minor athlete in person or in any private virtual setting. Maintain observable and interruptible environments at all times.
- Follow the two-deep leadership rule: at least two adults present for any in-person training involving a minor whenever reasonably possible.
- Keep all communication with athletes under 18 on the RSP platform, where it can be logged and a parent or guardian is included. No private texting, personal email, or direct messages on personal social media accounts with a minor athlete.
- Obtain appropriate parental consent before capturing or sharing photos or video of a minor athlete, and never request or store images of a private nature.
- Do not isolate an athlete from, or discourage an athlete from involving, their parent, guardian, or other trusted adults.
2. SafeSport Alignment
RSP aligns its expectations with the standards of the U.S. Center for SafeSport. You agree to conduct yourself consistently with SafeSport principles, including the prohibition of any form of emotional, physical, or sexual misconduct, bullying, hazing, or harassment.
RSP strongly encourages every coach who works with minors to complete recognized SafeSport or equivalent abuse-prevention training and to keep that training current. Coaches in the RSP Certified and Master tiers may be required to provide proof of current training.
3. Mandated Reporting
If you become aware of, or reasonably suspect, abuse or neglect of a minor, you are expected to report it to the appropriate authorities in accordance with the law of the jurisdiction where the conduct occurred, and to notify RSP.
You are responsible for knowing whether you qualify as a mandated reporter under your state's law. Many states treat youth-sport coaches as mandated reporters. When in doubt, report. RSP will never retaliate against a coach for making a good-faith report.
4. Professional Conduct
- No romantic or sexual relationship of any kind with an athlete under 18 — ever, regardless of circumstance. Relationships with adult athletes you coach must follow applicable law and avoid abuse of the coaching position.
- Use respectful, age-appropriate language. No demeaning, intimidating, or sexualized speech toward any athlete.
- No use of alcohol, cannabis, or other intoxicants while coaching, supervising, or otherwise responsible for athletes, and never on training premises during sessions.
- No discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
5. Financial Integrity
- Represent your pricing and services honestly. No hidden fees, bait pricing, or misrepresentation of what is included.
- No kickbacks, undisclosed commissions, or pay-to-play arrangements involving athletes, families, or third parties.
- Never accept or solicit payment in exchange for verifying a performance mark outside of RSP's sanctioned verification process. Verifications are earned by the athlete's performance, not purchased.
6. Platform Integrity
- Never fabricate, inflate, or knowingly approve a false performance mark or PR. The credibility of RSP verification depends on every coach being honest.
- No impersonation of another coach, athlete, official, or RSP staff member, and no creation of fake or duplicate accounts.
- No scraping, exporting, or bulk-collecting athlete data from the platform, and no use of athlete data for any purpose outside of coaching that athlete on RSP.
- No using the platform to poach or solicit another coach's clients. Respect existing coach-athlete relationships.
7. Enforcement & Termination
RSP may investigate suspected violations of this Code. Depending on severity, consequences may include a warning, suspension of platform access, removal from the coach directory, loss of certification or verification privileges, and permanent termination of your RSP coaching account.
Conduct that endangers a minor or violates the law may result in immediate termination and referral to the appropriate authorities, regardless of certification tier or tenure. RSP cooperates fully with law enforcement and SafeSport investigations.
If you witness or suspect a violation of this Code by another coach, report it to RSP at info@runspeedperformance.com.
By creating a coach account and checking the Coach Code of Conduct box at registration, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code, and that you will keep your knowledge of applicable child-safety and reporting laws current.
